J'ai pour objet d'examiner le changement des opinions des diplomes superieurs sur la reussite scolaire et sociale, en m'appuyant sur les resultats de l'enquete nationale sur la stratification et la mobilite sociale (l'enquete SSM) en 1995. En fait, la valeur de l'effort est desormais consideree comme ancienne et inferieure par rapport a la valeur des resultats dont les jeunes diplome(e)s superieur(e)s sont de plus en plus adeptes. Cette exaltation d'une nouvelle valeur a d'ailleurs tendance a intensifier la concurrence scolaire qui renforce la croyance dans des etudes de niveau de plus en plus eleve.
