At school promotion of education for international understanding and its further enrichment are expected. To be concrete, the Period for Integrated Study makes it possible to conduct education for international understanding more dramatically than before. Here it should be noticed that children so-called 'the Double' are increasing in number. Among them are newcomers and children born by their mothers coming from abroad who got married to their fathers engaged in agriculture in a farming village. Children of Korean residents in Japan and Amerasians also fall under this category of 'the Double'. It is meanigless to carry out superficial education for international understanding in total disregard of the Double. We have to form a historical view in which to consider the real existence of the Double, which is neither nationalism nor masochism, in order to provide chidren with education for international understanding. That is, what is essential to education for international understanding is to understand the Double who live their school life in classes with ordinary children.
