The deposits of the eruption are mainly consisted of the large scale pumice fall deposit (Spfa-1) and pyroclastic flow deposit (Spfl). The total mass of the Spfa-1 was calculated as 56.17 X 10^<15>g by the crystal concentration method (Walker, 1980). The eruption column height and wind speed of the upper air current was estimated from the maximum lithic size distribution. The eruption column, which produced the Spfa-1, was ascent to the altitude of ca. 50km, and the particles were dispersed from the height being affected by the strong westerly wind (30-40 m/s). The volume of the Spfl was calculated as 225km^3 from the thickness distribution of the Spfl in the specific fan shaped area. The dense rock equivalent volume of the hole deposits of the Shikotsu 40ka eruption was estimated as 139.5km^3. This value is larger than the volume of the topographic depression of the Shikotsu caldera (115 km3).
