Two hundred and eighteen students in 9th grade from 3 junior high schools were asked to rate their perceived social support from various sources and their perceived control over the school activities. The correlation coefficient between the two ratings were low but substantial, indicating that social support has some influences on academic motivation and achievement. Among 6 different sources, teacher support was found to correlate consistently to perceived control.
