Data were gathered from 199 university freshmen, using a questionnaire which was administered in April of 1994. Firstly, the data were analyzed by ANOVA. Then, the data were compared with those obatined in the previous study conducted in the previous year, by computating the Spearman correlation coefficients. The results showed that: 1) students were most afraid of speaking English in front of their peers; 2) the possibility of making mistakes in speaking English made students feel most anxious; 3) students evaluated their own English abilities rather low and 4) the results in this study were found to be consistent with those of the previous study by the author.
