One-hundred-and-eighty-eight students read some cases of students who wore clothes prohibited by the school and were given various advising words from their teacher. They were asked to rate their impressions about, and acceptability of the teacher's words. It was found that girls showed negative response especially when they were advised in front of other students. Students who were less motivated to their school life also gave negative response to prolonged explanation.
