糸魚川を大変有名にしているのはフォッサ・マグナとヒスイです。糸魚川市はこれらを使って市の発展をはかり，この地域を理解してもらうためにフォッサ・マグナミュージアムを平成6年に開館しました。フォツサ・マグナミュージアムは内外の鉱物・化石・岩石や日本の地質学の基礎をつくったナウマン博士の遺品を集め，地球科学の博物館としては日本でもすばらしい，みごたえのあるものの1つとなりました。野外での観察をおこなった後，博物館の標本を見ながら復習する事は事後学習をいっそう効果的なものとすると考えらます。このためフォツサ・マグナミュージアムを中心とした観察コースを設定しました。 |

The Itoigawa district is famous by jadeite and the Fossa Magna. The Itoigawa-Shizuoka tectonic line of the west boundary of the Fossa Magna is found in the Itoigawa district. The metamorphic rocks dated as 287±14Ma and the Paleozoic limestone are distributed in the Omi-Kotaki district. The rare mineral such as jadeite, oumilite and nunakawaite occurs in serpentinite. These samples in this area are shown in the Fossa Magna Museum opened in April 1994. In addition, there are the geogical articles of the late Dr Naumann, minerals, fossils, rocks and jadeite in the world. After we attended the field excursion, we compared the samples in the museum with those in the field. It is useful to the training for geology. Therefore, the geological survey was carried out for the natural observation route around the Fossa Magna Museum. |
