| 内容記述 | 本稿は，談話におけるwh分裂文の排他性（exclusiveness）について，Collins（1991），Declerck（1988）で展開されている議論の妥当性を検討し，Collins（1991）のwh分裂文の排他性は言語規約的含意であるという主張は受け入れられないことを論じた。この際，排他性はwh節に由来することを検証し，さらに排他性を査定するテストフレームを提示した。実際には排他性含意は却下される場合があることを実際の談話に生じている例を示して明らかにした。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This article is concerned with the exclusiveness implicature observed in the use of Wh-clefts in discourse. The main points argued are (i) that Collins' (1991) assertion that the exclusiveness implicature should be classified as a conventional implicature is too strong to accept as it stands, and (ii) that a test framework is proposed which is designed to assess the cancelability of the exclusiveness implicature in wh-clefts. In the course of the discussions exclusiveness is claimed to originate not in focus clauses but in wh-clauses of wh-clefts, and crucial evidence against Collins' arguments are presented which shows that the exclusiveness implicature, in fact, can be canceled in natural discourse. | |||||||||||
