特別支援学校は，障害児に対する教育が必要不可欠であるという先人達の固い信念と熱意に基づいて，盲学校，聾学校，養護学校として誕生した。本稿では，新潟県内の盲・聾・養護学校4校の誕生に際し，どのような経緯があったのか，どのような多くの人々の苦労があったのかを明らかにした。そして，開学以来，今日まで営まれてきた各学校の教育基盤と，それを支えてきた精神は何であったかを明らかにした。結果，新潟県の特別支援学校の開学のきっかけは，障害のあるこどもたちの近くに存在していた人々の思想や行動が大きいことが分かった。とりわけ，親や祖父母を始めとする家族，教師，医師，地域の人々等の身を削るような努力があった。その思想や努力は，何らかの形で受け継がれ語り継がれなければならないと考えた。 |

Special support schools have been made as schools for the blind, the deaf and physically handicapped or mentally retarded children. These schools are based on the pioneers' firm and enthusiastic belief that education for handicapped children is indispensable. In this paper, we clarify the circumstances and problems that arose when four schools in Niigata prefecture were established. In addition we clarify each school's educational basis and the mind that supported it since the schools have been established. We conclude that the process of setting up the special support schools in Niigata prefecture was taking advantage of the ideas and movements of people involved handicapped children. In particular, there was much effort from their families, teachers, doctors and neighborhood. We think that these ideas and efforts should be inherited and passed down from generation to generation. |
