平成14年7月文科省の「「英語が使える日本人」育成のための戦略構想」が発表され，英語力増強を目指してさまざまな試みが実施されつつある現在，実際に英語を教えている中学校・高等学校の教員はこの「英語が使える日本人」をどのように捉えているのだろうか。本研究の目的は公立中学校・高等学校英語教員の抱く「英語が使える日本人」像を明らかにすることである。2005年8月～11月に中学校教員67名，高等学校教員50名を対象に5段階尺度形式のアンケートを実施した。この調査結果を基に，公立中学校・高等学校英語教員が「英語が使える日本人」に関して具体的にどのような能力がどの程度身につくと考えているのかを明らかにするとともに，中学校・高等学校の教員間でそのイメージに違いはあるのか，また，最近の文法重視傾向は文法能力重視という形で現れるか，について考察を行っている。 |

Since the establishment of 'an Action Plan to Cultivate "Japanese with English Abilities"' by Japanese Ministry of Education (July, 2002), many attempts have been made to improve the English proficiency of Japanese people. It is not clear, however, what junior high and high school teachers of English think of 'Japanese with English Abilities.' the purpose of the present survey is to reveal it. A questionnaire with a 5-point scale form was administered to 67 junior high and 50 high school teachers of English during August to November of 2005. On the basis of the results, we discuss what they imagine with respect to 'Japanase with English Abilities', whether there is any difference between junior high and high school teachers, and whether we can say that they attach much importance on the grammar of English as is often pointed out as a recent tendency. |
