| 内容記述 | 英語の構文には，基本語順では文頭，文中，あるいは名詞句内に生じる要素が，元来の位置から文の右方へ移動している構文がある。本稿では，このうち長くて「重い」目的語名詞句が右方へ転移されて生じる重名詞句転移構文を取り上げ，(i)この構文には「統制的複雑性」と「情報の重要度」がともに関与していること，(ii)移動される要素だけでなく，「飛び越される要素」の「重さ」，及び「情報の重要度」をも考慮しなければならないこと，及び(iii)基本語順から逸脱した文の解釈と指導上の問題点等について，英語の談話における具体例を挙げて例証する。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This article is concerned with the functions of postposing constructions in discourse. The main points argued are: (i) that variations in postverbal word ordering have been attributed to both grammatical complexity (heaviness) and informational status (newness) in discourse, although few researches address the two factors clearly; (ii) tha the felicity of a postposing depends not only on the heaviness and informational status of the postposed constituent, but on the relative weights and informational status of the constituent over which it is moved. Based on these considerations on grammatical complexity and inforamational status, we propose a few of new teaching ideas regarding heavy NP shifts, double object constructions, and conditionals. | |||||||||||
