| 内容記述 | 英語の場所句倒置構文に現われる場所句は話題要素的特性を示す一方，動詞に後続する意味上の主語と主語的特性を分かち合っている。場所句を話題要素と見なすと主語的特性が説明されず，名詞句の主語と同等に見なすと話題要素的特性が説明されない。本稿では，Chomsky（1995）のミニマリスト・プログラムの枠組みで場所句倒置構文の構造及び派生を明らかにし，この枠組みで提案されている仕組みを活用することで場所句倒置構文のこれまで問題とされてきたさまぎまな特性を導き出すことができるということを示す。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | The locative phrase in English locative inversion (LI) constructions shows topic-like properties and shares subject properties with the inverted subject. If the locative phrase, PP, is analyzed as occupying the subject position, [Spec,T], its topic properties cannot be explained. If it is analyzed as appearing in a topic position, on the other hand, its subject properties do not follow. This paper shows in the framework of Chomsky's (1995) Minimalist Program that the subject position of the LI construction is occupied by an empty DP which receives a directional θ-role from the verb and behaves like there in that it contains neither Case nor φ-features but can be attracted by the EPP feature of T. PP is inserted into the outer Spec of T as a topic, which functions as an antecedent to the empty category. By postulating such a structure for LI, we can successfully explain both topic and subject properties of PP. | |||||||||||
