近年の地理学研究の中で注目されている地理情報システム（GIS）は，地理教育においても地理情報の収集，整理，分析に関する技能を習得するための，有効な素材ととらえることができる。本研究では，GISを活用した地域学習教材を作成した。教材は，埼玉県嵐山町にコンビニエンス・ストアを開店することを想定し，開店場所の選定に関わるマーケテイングをシミュレートするものである。教材の中には，地形図，土地利用図，空中写真，人口と地価に関する資料，現地で撮影した写真など，100におよぶ素材が含まれる。これらの素材をデジタル化し，リンクで結んでホームページ閲覧ソフトで呼び出せるようにした。このような大量の資料を学生・生徒に配布し，管理させることは困難であるが，コンピュータ上では，これらの資料が系統的な配列を保ったまま，散逸することなく管理され，必要なときに必要な情報を引きだすことができる。実際に大学の地理学実習授業においてこの教材を使用した。学生は，簡単な説明を受けただけで多数の素材を活用して考察を行い，GISに対する興味関心も高かった。 |

In this study, a local learning material, which utilizes the geographical information system (GIS), is presented. This learning material is regarded to be effective for developing the skills of geography. In the material, pupils and students simulate to seek the location for a new convenience store in Ranzan-machi. The material includes over hundred kinds of sources : landscape photos, topographic maps, land use maps, aerial photos, and the thematic maps of populations and land prices. When such a large quantity of source is printed on papers, it is difficult for pupils to control them. But, these sources are digitized and linked each other, so as to readout easily by Web browser soft. We adopt the Web browser soft to handle the sources, since these soft wares are generally free and the user interfaces of them are very sophisticated. We applied the material to a university laboratory class. The students operated the material readily, and showed high interest in GIs. |
